20150416: A good way to avoid a lot of problems with Windows 7 or 8 and DFBHDTS is to make sure you run any executable involved with the game as administrator. Right-click the installers and choose the option "Run as Administrator" when installing. Right-click the desktop icons for the game (and the mission editor), open the Properties, switch to the Compatability tab, and activate the checkbox that says "Run this program as an administrator."

Failing to do this will force Windows 7/8 to shunt changed and new files (like the dfv.cfg, dfvplr.sav, mission saves, map edits, etc.) to the "C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore" folder, from where the OS is safer from malignant code, but the game cannot access these files.

20130313: If you have downloaded the BHD_Install.exe and/or the BHDTS_Install.exe from the NovaLogic website, your game is version 1.5.0.5 already, and installing the update will corrupt your game. Do not update DFBHD or TS if you did not install from the CDs. Skip right to downloading the Ibrowse.dll Security Update (details below).

Usually, I run a reinstall like this:

1. Deinstall TS.
2. Deinstall BHD.
3. Delete everything* in the game folder that's not a .bms, .mis, .wac, .bin, .cin, .end file, or mod folder.
4. Reinstall BHD.
5. DO NOT UPDATE BHD!
6. Start reinstalling TS. Allow the bhdupd8.exe (Ver. 1.3, I think) on the TS CD to finish before entering the CD-key and completing the TS installation! (If you don't see it running, ALT+TAB to the installer window!)
7. Update TS to 1.5.0.5 with the dfbhdts_update_012104_ux.exe downloaded from novalogic.com.¹

I've tested a lot of permutations of the steps sketched above, including updating BHD before installing TS and using the in-game updater. This method seems to work the most reliably for me, though.

Then when you throw my mod on top of it, it gets even more awesome, but that's opinion, not fact, no matter how factual my opinion may be.

*If you don't download maps, make maps, have any mods, make any mods, or care about your single player campaign progress, you would probably make your life easier by simply deleting the entire game folder. But...

1. dfv.cfg: the game stores video, sound, MP host messages and various other settings in this file.
2. dfvplyr.sav: the game stores keyboard remaps and campaign progress in this file.
3. #SPBHD_###.bmx: these are BHD mission saves.
4. #TSBHD_###.bmx: these are TS mission saves.
5. #SPBHD_###.pcx: these are BHD mission save thumbnails.
6. #TSBHD_###.pcx: these are TS mission save thumbnails.

These are files you might consider making backups for.

¹Not that I think you're stupid or anything, I just want to add this footnote in the interest of clarity... if you DO NOT have Team Sabre, you should not install the dfbhdts_update_012104_ux.exe. You want the Delta Force - Black Hawk Down - General Update. Download the one listed for your country.
